On August 15, 2024, the Philippine Food and Drug Authority issued a notice to develop a Codex standard for follow-up formula and products for young children (CXS 156-1987 Rev. 2023) as follows:
(1) Definitions of terms, which define the names of babies, older babies, etc.;
(2) The revised version shall apply in addition to, and to the extent consistent with, existing national laws, including the registration, labelling and advertising of subsequent formula or milk supplements and children's products. Obtain a Certificate of Registration (CPR) before selling, importing or distributing products;
(3) The guidelines for the follow-up formula for older infants and young children stipulate the standards for the addition of energy, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, taurine, DHA, choline, inositol and other substances, all substances shall not be ionizing radiation. Do not add condiments;
(4) Set contaminant limits in accordance with the General Standard for Contaminants and Toxins in Food and Feed (CXS 193-1995);
(5) The sanitary conditions shall comply with the General Principles of Food Hygiene (CXC 1-1969) and the Hygienic Practice Code for Infant Formula Powder, etc.;
(6) Specifies container and labeling requirements. The use of nutritional baby food health claims is prohibited, and the source of protein should be clearly displayed on the label;
(7) The analysis and sampling methods are in accordance with the relevant provisions of CXS 234-1999 14;
(8) The feedback period ends on August 30, 2024.
