Saudi Arabia proposed to develop technical regulations on infant formula and FSMP

On August 21, 2024, the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia issued a circular to formulate technical regulations on infant formula, larger infant formula and food for special medical use, with the feedback period ending September 21, 2024. The main content includes:

 

(1) Scope of application. Infant formula, infant formula for older infants from 6 to 12 months and 12 to 36 months, and formula food for special medical purposes (from birth to 12 months);

 

(2) General requirements. All ingredients and additives must be gluten-free; All ingredients must meet natural quality requirements, such as color, smell and flavor; The product must be free of impurities and defects;

 

(3) Product nutrition requirements. Such as: infant formula in energy, protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and other content requirements, fluoride content < 100μg/100kcal (24μg/100kJ); The content of additives and pollutants is shown in the following table;

 

(4) Packaging requirements, etc.
