Australia updated import conditions for products containing 10 percent or more egg

On September 10, 2024, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) updated the import conditions for products containing 10% or more eggs (excluding mooncakes, egg powders and liquid egg products). Main contents:

 

(1) A valid import licence issued by DAFF is required before the goods are imported into Australian territory;

 

(2) The commodity shall not be mooncake, egg powder (the commodity may contain egg powder as an ingredient, but not the main ingredient), liquid egg products, containing eggshell or eggshell membrane, containing ingredients of animal origin (except eggs and milk);

 

(3) The product must satisfy the following requirements: the egg ingredients must only come from the chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus); During commercial heating, the egg ingredients of the commodity must be heat treated to a minimum central temperature of 70°C for at least 8.2 minutes (or equivalent); The dry weight content of the product must be less than 10%; Any plant material in the shipment must be highly processed and commercially prepared and packaged;

 

(4) The following must be shown in a health certificate or in a government-recognized manufacturer's declaration: The egg is only from the chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus); Heat the egg component of the product to a minimum core temperature of 70°C for at least 8.2 minutes (or equivalent) during commercial heating;

 

(5) The following must be stated in the manufacturer's declaration: The only material of animal origin in the goods is eggs and/or dairy products; The product is not a mooncake, egg powder or liquid egg product; It does not contain eggshell or eggshell membrane; Products contain no dairy ingredients, or the dry weight content of dairy ingredients is less than 10%. The manufacturer's claim must come from the manufacturer of the final product.

 

The above changes are effective from September 10, 2024.
