In a move expected to boost the Norwegian seafood industry, the European Union has agreed to open 12 duty-free import quotas for Norwegian seafood, according to SeafoodNews.

The agreement is valid from May 1, 2021 to April 30, 2028, and is expected to boost the Norwegian seafood industry.

Negotiations on a new tranche of EEA funding officially began in June 2022, and negotiators reached an agreement in November 2023.

On June 25 of this year, the EU Council, which represents the member states, ratified the agreement.

The Norwegian seafood industry needs a few more months before it can start using the duty-free quotas, and the agreement will end in 2028.

The Norwegian government has said that the remaining quota could be used until May 2030 if the quota is not fully utilized.
