Non-alcoholic beverage consumption costs rise in Kazakhstan in 2024: mineral water price increases by 15 percent annually

The total production of non-alcoholic beverages in Kazakhstan as of January-August 2024 reached 2.2 billion liters, an increase of 1.1% year-on-year.

  

Of this, mineral water and soft drinks accounted for 518.4 million liters, while the rest of non-alcoholic beverage production reached 1.7 billion liters. The production figures show that Almaty Oblast tops the list of the country's non-alcoholic beverages production, realizing a 6.1% increase with an annual output of 1.2 billion liters, contributing alone 51.3% of the national supply.

  

It was followed by the city of Chimkent in second place, which produced 272.3 million liters, up 4.5% year-on-year, while the capital city of Astana was in third place, with 256.6 million liters, a decrease of 16.2% compared to last year.

  

In terms of domestic supply-demand balance, the self-sufficiency rate of Kazakhstani enterprises for mineral water and non-alcoholic beverages has reached 87.7 percent from January to July this year, up from 86.9 percent in the same period last year. imports, which accounted for 12.3% of total supply, decreased by 5.8% year-on-year to 273.1 million liters. Export performance also showed solid growth, reaching 253.8 million liters in seven months, up 7.8% year-on-year.

  

Despite stable production and supply, prices continued to climb. Non-alcoholic beverages and fruit juices rose at an average annual rate of 11.7%. Regionally, the highest increase of 17.4% was recorded in North Kazakhstan Oblast; in addition, Karaganda, Western Kazakhstan, Mangostele and Almaty Oblasts recorded price increases of 16.8%, 15.3%, 13.7% and 13.5%, respectively. The price increase in the Ulughur region was relatively small, at 5.7%.

  

Broken down into specific categories, the price of mineral water rose by 14.7 per cent in a year, and drinking water by 13.6 per cent.
