Pakistan has successfully exported its first batch of 21 tonnes of farmed prawns to Vietnam, marking its entry into the $57 billion global shrimp farming industry. The shipment came from the pilot shrimp farm project in Muzaffargarh, Punjab, which aims to achieve annual exports of US $2 billion and become an important starting point for the development of Pakistan's aquaculture industry.
This achievement was made possible by the collaboration of the Special Pakistan Investment Facilitation Committee (SIFC), the Green Pakistan Initiative and the Green Enterprise Livestock Initiative (GCLI). The joint action of these agencies aims to tap Pakistan's rich aquaculture potential and promote the modernization of the industry.
The coastal areas of Pakistan and the salt plains of Punjab province have thousands of acres of land suitable for shrimp farming. Currently, the federal government is working with provincial governments under the framework of SIFC and GCLI to not only attract domestic and foreign investment, but also to expand the market and export more seafood to countries such as Jordan and the United States.
With the strengthening of infrastructure construction and policy support, Pakistan's aquaculture industry is moving into the international market. The export of shrimp to Vietnam is not only an important step in Pakistan's integration into the global aquatic trade, but also lays a solid foundation for its future economic growth and agricultural diversification.
Pakistan is taking shrimp farming as an entry point to accelerate the development of aquaculture, release the potential of agricultural resources, and gradually establish its position in the global aquaculture market through international cooperation and market development.
