On November 21, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China issued Announcement No. 169 of 2024, announcing that from now on, Rwandan honey that meets the relevant requirements will be allowed to be imported.
The honey allowed to be imported from the Republic of Rwanda (hereinafter referred to as Rwanda) refers to the natural sweet substance made by bees after they collect nectar, secretions or honeydew from plants and mix it with their own secretions.
Enterprises producing honey exported to China shall be registered with the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Chinese side). The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources of the Republic of Rwanda (hereinafter referred to as the Rwandan side) shall review the honey production enterprises to be exported to China and recommend them to the Chinese side if they are found to be in compliance with Chinese laws, regulations, standards and the requirements of the Protocol. Unregistered honey production enterprises are not allowed to export honey to China.
At the same time, the announcement also details the relevant requirements for imports, including production, storage and transportation requirements, packaging and identification requirements, certificate requirements.
