On 22 November 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture of Ukraine issued an order approving the olive oil standards regulation, as well as the rules for inspection of olive oil marketing standards and methods of product characterisation.
The main contents of the standard include: olive oil product definition, classification and related terminology, physical and chemical quality and content requirements of characteristic components (e.g. cardamom acid content ≤0.03%, eicosanoic acid content ≤0.2%, trans fatty acid content of premium olive oil ≤0.05%, etc.), safety, health and quality requirements (e.g. solvent residue ≤0.2mg/kg, peroxide value ≤0.25g/100g, etc.) The standard also includes product sampling methods, testing items and determination rules, labelling requirements, product packaging, transport, storage and sales requirements.
The standard regulation will come into force six months after the date of publication, with a transition period of three years.
