Russian fishing industry profits expected to fall 26 percent

From SeafoodNews, the financial and economic situation in the country's fishing industry has become more complicated by this year, German Zverev, chairman of the All-Russian Association of Fish Producers, told the association's general assembly.

  

According to the results of the eight months of the current year, the profit of the Russian fishing industry fell by 26%, from 81 billion rubles to 60 billion rubles, and the current situation in the sector remains complicated.

  

More than 40% of the Russian fishing industry is in the red, and loans and borrowings from the fishing industry total more than 1 trillion rubles, which is almost equal to the annual turnover.

  

In 2023, the net profit of the Russian fishing industry fell by 13% to 136.1 billion rubles.

  

The latest report from Russia's Rosrybolovstvo puts the total fish catch in Russia at 4.4 million tons as of mid-November, down 8.2% year-on-year, with catches expected to reach 5 million tons by the end of the year, down from 5.3 million tons last year.
