Vietnam's tuna exports to the US have rebounded strongly, with sales of canned tuna rising 17 percent year-on-year to $95 million, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said.
The US remains the largest exporter of canned tuna to Vietnam, accounting for 36 percent of the country's total canned tuna exports. While Thailand remained the largest supplier of canned tuna to the US, Vietnam increased its exports, overtaking Mexico to become the second largest supplier to the US, with a 12% share of the US market.
Vietnamese exporters have also adjusted their pricing strategy, which now averages $4,670 per ton.
In addition to the US, Vietnam's tuna exports to Portugal have also grown sharply, with exports to this European market up 380 percent year-on-year, reaching more than $10 million in the first 11 months.
Strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Africa and Latin America, Portugal is gradually becoming an important gateway for Vietnamese tuna to enter Europe and Africa.
The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has provided significant tariff concessions for Vietnamese exporters, enhancing their competitiveness in the global market.
