According to Thai media reports, the Thai Ministry of Agriculture held an urgent meeting to discuss measures to strengthen control and inspection of durians and residues exported to China.
Thailand said that China's market regulators exported to China's Thai durian food safety inspections, found the use of a non-food coloring called "alkaline yellow" (also known as gold amine, Oramin O).
It is understood that alkaline yellow is a yellow industrial dye, mainly used for hemp, paper, leather and other dyeing. Alkaline tender yellow is listed in the World Health Organization (WHO) as a class 2B carcinogen, and in 2008 the Ministry of Health of China listed it as a non-food substance. Some durian factories use industrial dyes such as alkaline tender yellow to dye the outer skin of durians in order to make the color of durian skin look better.
Thai media reported that every shipment of durian exported from Thailand to China must be accompanied by a test report on alkaline yellow and heavy metal cadmium, which must not be detected in order to issue a PC certificate (Product Conformity Certificate).Starting from January 10th, the Chinese side will conduct a random check on each shipment at import checkpoints, and immediately suspend the importation of residues found to exceed the standard. The Chinese side notified the Thai side of the news on January 8, and many parts of Thailand have suspended purchasing durians for export to China.
At the same time, the domestic fruit industry practitioners confirmed that the Customs and Excise Department requires that from January 10, all imported durians (including Vietnam / Thailand) to implement the implementation of sampling per vehicle, testing "alkaline yellow". The testing program requires a 100% delivery rate, and cannot be removed during the testing period.
