On December 31, 2024, the National Legal Information Center (NLIC) of Korea issued Law No. 20618 amending the Liquor Tax Act. In order to apply the traditional liquor tax rate according to the export volume, the tax rate for traditional liquor such as rice wine and medicinal liquor up to a certain export volume was adjusted from 50% of the tax rate for each type of liquor to 50% of the tax rate for each type of liquor, which will be reduced or exempted according to the Presidential Decree. The law will come into effect on January 1, 2025, and the duty rate on traditional liquor exported by liquor manufacturers before the law came into effect will remain unchanged.
