On September 20, 2022, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health published three draft food regulations on its website and specified as follows:
(1) Technical Regulations on Supplementary Nutritional Formula Food for Pregnant and Lactating Women, mainly including product definition and classification (supplementary food in powder or liquid state for pregnant and lactating women, nutritional content requirements therein are different from general food), general requirements (no caking, no non-food or drug ingredients, etc.), nutritional content requirements, product processing, transportation and storage requirements, labeling requirements, etc.;
(2) Draft Provisions on Allergen Labeling on Pre-Packaged Food Labels, main contents include the scope of application and exemption (for example, food consisting of a single ingredient, such as rice, coffee, tea, etc., does not need to label allergens), relevant definitions, legal types of allergens (14 kinds of crustaceans, egg products, etc.), scope of allergen labeling (allergens in ingredients and food additives need to be labeled. But not including processing aids)and labeling requirements (including language, picture, standard allergen claim language, etc.);
(3) Draft Regulations of the Heat Treatment for Meat Products Processing , main content including product definition and classification (heat treated meat products including packaged meat loaf, meat paste, canned meat, etc.,mainly made from raw material such as frozen beef, camel, lamb, poultry or rabbit, excluding bone, cartilage and ligament), raw material requirements (meat content in the finished product shall be no less than 80%, Plant protein content shall not exceed 5.3%, etc.), heat treatment technology requirements, sampling and testing methods, labeling regulations, etc.
