Food Import risk alert in Taiwan: A batch of Vietnamese golden pillow durian contains high levels of heavy metals

On October 11, 2022, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration issued a list of border inspection unqualified food products showed that a batch of golden pillow durian from Vietnam contains heavy metal exceeding standard.

 

The notification showed that the name of the Vietnamese manufacturer or exporter is TAN TAN THANH IMP EXP CO., LTD, and the importer in Taiwan is Mingbang Vegetable and Fruit Co.

The batch of golden pillow durian contains heavy metal cadmium at 0.07 mg/kg. According to Taiwan's "health standards for contaminants and toxins in food", cadmium (other vegetables and fruits not listed) limit of 0.05 mg/kg, the case does not meet the provisions of Article 17 of the Food Safety and Health Administration Law.

 

A total of 15,917.00 kg of non-conforming products were returned or destroyed for disposal.
