On 22 November 2022, the Tanzania Bureau of Standards issued a standard notice to prepare 15 draft standards for inspection methods of sugar products. Part of the draft standards are:
(1) Detection method of lead content in white sugar, raw sugar and other products, specifically colorimetric method, detection limit 0.5mg/kg;
(2) The detection method of sulfites in sugar, specifically the enzyme-catalyzed method, the detection limit is 4mg/kg;
(3) Detection method of copper content in refined sugar, specifically colorimetric method, detection limit is 0.1mg/kg;
(4) Water content detection method in sugars (including all kinds of raw sugars, refined sugars, sucrose, etc.), specifically weight loss on drying.
The period for comments on the draft standards ends January 16, 2023.
