Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development stated that after the signing of the Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for Vietnam's Durian Export to China, Vietnam's durian exports to China surged. In October alone, Vietnamese durian exports to China reached nearly US$50 million, a year-on-year increase of 4.12%. Throughout 2022, Vietnam will export a total of 30,000 tons of durian to the Chinese market.
Vietnam has become the second country after Thailand to gain official market access for fresh durians in China. This will create more room for the development of Vietnam's strong durian cultivation industry and improve the income of hundreds of thousands of farmers in the Tay Nguyen, Southeast and Mekong Delta regions.
According to the Plantation Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, by the end of 2021, Vietnam's national durian production will reach approximately 642,600 tons, a year-on-year increase of 15%. Vietnamese frozen durians have been exported to many countries. Vietnamese durians are mainly harvested from April to the end of July, and the by-production period is from October to March of the following year.
Durian is the 11th fruit approved to enter the Chinese market. Other approved fruits are dragon fruit, watermelon, lychee, longan, banana, mango, jackfruit, rambutan, mangosteen and passion fruit.
