According to U.S. animal nutrition company Alltech, global aquafeed production will be about 52.9 million tons in 2022, up 2.7 percent from the previous year, with China, Vietnam, India, Norway and Indonesia among the top five producers.
Last year, aquafeed production in Asia was about 3.83 million tonnes, up 9 percent. China's production increased by 2.0 million tons, or about 10 percent. alltech said that in 2022, China's improved economic level and increased demand for aquatic products will stimulate the growth of aquafeed production and sales.
In 2022, production in other Asian countries such as the Philippines, Bangladesh, South Korea and Malaysia showed year-on-year growth.
In Europe, Norway produced about 2.01 million tons of aquafeeds, accounting for 43% of European production. The United Kingdom (260,000 tonnes), Greece (220,000 tonnes), Spain (180,000 tonnes), France (150,000 tonnes), and Italy (130,000 tonnes) are next in line.
Middle Eastern countries grew by as much as 13.14 percent, and the overall base remained low at about 566,000 tonnes.
Latin America aquafeed production of 5.92 million tons, an increase of 4.79 percent; Ecuador's production of 1.4 million tons, an increase of 17 percent; Chile's production of 1.32 million tons, and Peru 500,000 tons.
Last year, North America aquafeed production of 1.75 million tons, an increase of 1%; Africa's production of 1.45 million tons, down 2%; Oceania's production of 200,000 tons, up 5%.
