On March 20, 2023, Saudi Arabia suspended imports of shrimp originating in India, according to the World Trade Organization Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures.

According to Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the white spot syndrome virus has been detected in frozen shrimp imported from India. In an effort to prevent the white spot syndrome virus from entering the country, Saudi Arabia has suspended imports of Indian shrimp until India provides adequate information to ensure that its exports are free from the virus.
