Chile has reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) an outbreak of the H5N1 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza in its poultry farms. In order to protect the safety of China's animal husbandry and prevent the spread of the epidemic, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) issued Notice No. 26 of 2023, banning the import of poultry and related products directly or indirectly from Chile (products derived from unprocessed poultry or products that have the potential to spread the epidemic despite being processed).
The announcement shall come into effect as of the date of promulgation.
