On 1 December 2023, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty issued Notice No. 2023/0675/IT on the proposed regulation banning the production and import of food products derived from animal cell cultures, with a feedback period of 4 March 2024. Main contents:

(2) Production ban. Prohibit the production, import and sale of food derived from vertebrate tissue culture or cell culture; It is prohibited to use meat names for processed vegetable products containing plant proteins (common names of products include meat, animal type or animal form, food names of animal origin, etc.);

(3) Specific provisions on penalties for violations.
