Korean government releases strategy to strengthen global competitiveness of Korean food industry

The Korean government plans to expand the size of the global Korean food industry to 300 trillion won (approximately 1.6 trillion yuan) by 2027 and increase the number of Korean restaurants overseas to 15,000 restaurants.

 

The South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) released the "Strategy for Strengthening the Global Competitiveness of the Korean Food Industry", which contains the above content, at the Emergency Economic Governors' Meeting and Prices-Related Governors' Meeting held at the Seoul Office Building of the central government on the 2nd.

 

The MAFRA has set a goal of expanding the size of the global Korean food industry to 300 trillion won by 2027 as global demand for Korean food increases. The number of overseas Korean restaurants will increase from 9,923 in 2020 to 15,000 in 2027, and the number of Michelin-starred "excellent Korean restaurants" will increase from 31 last year to 100 in 2027. The number of Michelin-starred "excellent Korean restaurants" will increase from 31 last year to 100 by 2027, and the number of Korean chefs to be trained and supported will gradually increase from the current 250 to 600 by 2027.

 

The MAFRA will also create digital recipes for 100 types of Korean food and plan to release the logo of "Adventurous Table," the keyword for the Korean food brand, in the first half of the year, and will create 15 tourist products featuring fermentation culture, traditional Korean food, seasonal tables, and popular Korean food by 2027. "K-Gourmet Belt".

 

In addition, the MAFRA will hold the "50 Best Restaurants in Asia", an event for the restaurant industry, from 24 to 26 March this year, and invite world-renowned culinary masters to participate in the Global Forum on Korean Cuisine.
