South Korea relaxed administrative penalties for serving alcohol to teenagers

On February 23, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2024-91, proposing to revise part of the Implementation Rules of the Food Hygiene Law, the main contents of this revision are as follows:

 

1. With the abolition of the excellent company system, some regulations on excellent companies will be removed.

 

2. The standard of administrative punishment for providing alcohol to teenagers has been relaxed: seven days of suspension for one violation, one month of suspension for two violations, and two months of suspension for three or more violations.

 

3. When conducting remote inspection and investigation of operators using information and communication technology, supplementary administrative punishment standards should be formulated for obstruction and evasion of inspection.

 

The call for comments is open until April 3, 2024.
