On 21 February 2024, the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) revised the joint food standard with effect from 7 February 2024. Key elements:

(1) Four substances are permitted as nutrients in infant formula products: a mixture of 2'-fucose-based lactose (2'-FL) and di-Fucose-based lactose (DFL) (2'FL/DFL), Lacto-N-tetrasaccharide (LNT), 6'-sialic acid lactose (6'-SL) sodium salt, and 3'-sialic acid lactose (3'-SL) sodium salt;

(2) Claims of "no added sugar" are not permitted if the claim meets the definition of "added sugar" or if, although there is no added sugar, the amount of monosaccharides and polysaccharides in the solid food is >10.0 g/100g and in the liquid food is >7.5 g/100ml.
