South Korea intends to modify the printing standards of utensils and packaging materials in direct contact with food surfaces

On February 27, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2024-97, proposing to revise part of the "Standards and Specifications for Appliances and Container Packaging". The main contents of which are as follows:

 

1. Considering the diversification of printing methods brought about by the development and production of various products of food utensils (knives, etc.) and the development of science and technology, reasonably modify the printing standards of utensils and packaging materials that directly contact the food surface.

 

2. Delete the test method of the total dissolution quantity specification in the metal material specification; The quantitative analysis method of arsenic was modified.

 

3. When the material and color of the new package material body and accessories are the same, the body is tested and the relevant standards are applicable.

 

The above comments will be solicited until April 27, 2024.
