Brazil set regulatory requirements for different categories of food

On February 22, 2024, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency issued document IN N° 281, setting out regulatory requirements for different categories of food products, which will be implemented from September 1, 2024. Main contents:

 

(1) Categories of food subject to compulsory registration. 8 categories, such as therapeutic food for inborn metabolic defects, infant formula, infant formula designed for specific dietary and therapeutic needs;

 

(2) Food that can only be produced by notifying the National Health Supervision Bureau. Desalination, drinking and packaging of seawater, food with functional or health claims, weight control food, food supplements, etc.

 

(3) Food that requires communication with the National Health Supervision Bureau in order to produce and process. 13 kinds of sugar and confectionery, diet food, cereal and starch food;

 

(4) Unregulated food. Food raw materials, fresh food, etc.;

 

(5) Submit the necessary documents for registration application. Application form for registration; A copy of the manufacturer's valid health license; Production, quality control and storage system documentation; Label proof of imported products, test report of ingredients and additives contained in the products; Nutritional characteristics declaration; Proof of the method of killing botulinum by honey products; Products for children under 3 years old are gluten-free.
