Brazil proposed to establish nutrient content and nutrition claim requirements for infant formula and transitional foods

On 22 March 2024, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) issued Consultation document 1243, which proposes to establish requirements for nutrient content and nutrition claims, as well as authorised ingredient lists for infant formula and transition foods, infant formula and dietary therapeutic formulas for congenital defects. The feedback period is open until 27 June 2024 for comments.

 

Main contents: Minimum and maximum limits of protein, carbohydrates and energy content of fat in infant formula; minimum and maximum limits of vitamins, minerals and other substances in food; reference values of essential amino acids and semi-essential amino acids and other related requirements. Some of the contents are shown in the table below.
