Israel published guidelines for new food ingredients of phosphatidylserine from soybeans

On April 2, 2024, the Israeli Ministry of Health issued guidelines for new food ingredients of phosphatidylserine from soybeans, to be implemented from the date of publication. Main contents:

 

(1) The production of phosphatidylserine must meet the hygiene requirements of good manufacturing hygiene practice;

 

(2) phosphatidylserine composition requirements. Triglyceride ≤2%, tocopherol ≤0.2%, phytosterol ≤0.028%; Peroxide value ≤0.5meq/Kg, total arsenic ≤0.5mg/kg, lead ≤0.5mg/kg, cadmium ≤0.2mg/kg and other requirements;

 

(3) Phosphatidylserine shall not be used in baby and toddler foods or special foods, and is only allowed to be used in some foods, and its maximum added amount is shown in the table below. The ingredient name "Soy phosphatidylserine" must be labeled in the ingredient list on the label.
