On May 15, 2024, Thailand's National Agricultural and Food Standards Authority (NAFSA) issued Circular 182 to develop a standard for dehydrated turmeric products.
The standard applies to dehydrated turmeric products (including whole ginger root, slices and turmeric powder, etc.) that are domestically produced or imported in Thailand for direct human consumption or as an ingredient in food processing, with the main contents including product definition and classification, sensory and quality requirements (e.g. the moisture content of dehydrated turmeric powder should be ≤10%, the total curcumin content should be ≥2%, etc.), safety and hygienic standards implemented for the products and related requirements (e.g. the aflatoxin Content should be <20μg/kg), packaging, transportation and labeling requirements (product labels should indicate the trade name and scientific name, date of production and shelf life, specifications, country (place) of origin, manufacturer, distributor or importer's name, address and contact information, storage conditions and other information), product sampling standards and testing items and methods.
Feedback period for comments on the draft standards ends on June 20, 2024.
