Thailand revised labeling requirements for prepackaged foods

On July 15, 2024, the Food and Drug Administration of Thailand (FDA) issued Circular 450 to revise the labeling requirements for prepackaged foods. The main contents include:

 

(1) Terms and definitions, mandatory labeling information categories for prepackaged food labeling (name, list of ingredients, etc.) and their labeling requirements (e.g., displaying the name of the food must include a height of not less than 2 mm, a label area of less than 35 c ㎡, and a font size up to not less than 1 mm);

 

(2) Selective labeling information categories and their labeling requirements (e.g., trademark name);

 

(3) Requirements for the use of food ingredient claims on labels (updated “Food Allergy Information” can use other information with the same meaning, displayed in a clear and easy-to-read manner; allergens/allergen types added squid and squid products), exemptions and products, etc. The requirements have been issued by the Minister of Health.

 

The requirements have been issued by the Minister of Health and will enter into force upon official publication in the Official Gazette for a transitional period of two years.
