FSANZ has assessed an application from DSM Nutritio
nal Products Asia Pacific to amend the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) to permit the use of rapeseed protein isolate as a novel food.
Rapeseed protein isolate is intended to be used as a protein source and ingredient in a range of foods. It is intended as a replac
ement for existing protein sources. The applicant provided typical use levels from 2 to 10% for FSANZ to undertake a more refined risk assessment. The isolate, which is at least 90% protein, also provides desirable functio
nal and sensory properties in food.
