Quarantine measures at Chinese ports put pressure on Russian cod exports
Intrafish News: On June 15 that strict quarantine measures at Chinese ports and slow fishing speed of cod in Russia have affected the supply of raw materials for Chinese processing plants.
The cod catch in Russia’s A fishing season decreased by 13% from last year to 37,000 tons. H&G cod production decreased by 34%, while fish fillet products increased by 31%.
The US PBO cod slice production decreased by 17,000 tons.
As a result, the increase in the production of cod fillets in Russia has not offset the decrease in the production of cod fillets in the United States, and the production of fish fillets has also declined this year. The export volume of Russian cod to China in the first quarter was only 22,905 tons, a drop of 90%.
At present, the supply of raw materials in Chinese factories is very low, and the European and American markets are beginning to feel tight supply of products. At the same time, there are also huge challenges to freight pressure. The shortage of containers and rising freight costs will all show up in fish prices in the second half of this year.
