On February 10, 2022, the Uruguay Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Agriculture and Fisheries issued Resolution No. 34/022 on the import procedures for meat, meat by-products and egg products. The main contents include:
(1) Objectives. Control and supervise the import of meat, meat products, by-products and egg products, and take necessary measures to reduce health risks and protect public and animal health;
(2) Responsibility. Division of responsibilities between the General Administration of Animal Husbandry Services, the Department of Animal Industry, and the import Committee;
(3) Application and registration of pre-import documents. Registration of importers and products to be imported is mandatory as well as required documentation requirements for registration, issuance of registration number, label showing registration number, import request, import committee assessment, acceptance of application and presenting the terms required in the health certificate issued by the country of origin , import approval;
(4) Suspension of import. Occurrence of disease in the country of origin that poses a risk to animal health, repeated violations of current Uruguay regulations in the tested product, failure of the health authorities of the country of origin to report corrective or preventive measures when exporting products fail testing, or failure to provide required technology information;
(5) Border pass application and required document requirements;
(6) documents to be presented at the border crossing. The route, the country of origin health certificate must be presented: meet the health requirements specified in the import decision, must be issued in the official language and Spanish of the country of origin, with the official seal of the country of origin, attached documents such as manifests, and the original form of the import decision;
(7) Inspection of border crossings. Verify whether the documents, cargo refrigeration equipment and registration number are consistent with the health certificate, cargo packaging, name, batch, label, official seal, temperature, quality inspection;
(8) Authorized cold storage inspection. documentation (internal hygiene pass, certificate of origin) inspection, and product control.
(9) Product laboratory re-inspection; release request; import refusal and other relevant regulations.
