Croatia issues regulations on poultry sales

On 3 June 2022, the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture published regulations on the sales of poultry meat in the official gazette. The main contents are as follows :

(1) The regulations regulate the marketing standards of poultry meat and supervise and control whether poultry meat conforms to marketing standards and rules, including poultry meat processed in a certain way;  

(2) The definition of pre-packaged and non-pre-packaged poultry meat;  

(3) The packagers or importers of prepackaged poultry meat, frozen and quick-frozen poultry meat shall be responsible for the prepackaged products according to the actual filling quantity of each prepackaged pack compared with the nominal weight indicated on the prepackaged pack.  A pre-package with a negative deviation of the fill quantity that does not meet the eligibility criteria set out in Article 9 of Regulation (EC) No. 1234/2007 is considered defective and may not be placed on the market.  
(4) The production record requirements: each batch of poultry must be marked immediately with the only batch number in the slaughterhouse or in the cutting factory from where the date of production can be determined. Slaughter and cutting factory have a duty to input and save the marks and production records mentioned in article 1 of the text and the records must be saved to the end of next year after the year of record for authorized supervision personnel to consult  

(5) Frequency and method for controlling moisture in poultry meat;  

(6) Deviation of moisture control frequency of poultry meat;  

(7) Control of moisture content in imported and exported frozen poultry meat, etc.

The regulations will take effect on the eighth day after the official gazette is published.
