Hekou - Thành phố Lào Cai port to resume import of Vietnamese fruit as pilot point

On June 27, Chinese border authorities piloted the import of pitaya, lychees and mangoes from Vietnam through the Kim Thành No.2 land international port at Vietnam's Lào Cai International Port, Viet Nam News agency reported.

Affected by China's strict epidemic prevention regulations, customs clearance procedures at the Kim Thành No.2 land international port have been suspended since Feb 17, said He Deshun, deputy director of Lào Cai Provincial Port Administration Committee.

After several talks and communication between the border administrations of the two sides, China resumed import of Vietnamese agricultural products on a pilot basis on June 27, in order to assess the epidemic prevention and control efforts.

On the first day of the pilot project, two carloads of Vietnamese pitaya and lychee were successfully cleared through customs.  After the inspection, China will officially resume customs clearance of Vietnamese agricultural products at Lào Cai port if the epidemic prevention and control requirements are met.

At present, the Lào Cai Port Management Committee is negotiating with the Chinese side to resolve difficulties and create more convenient conditions for Vietnam's agricultural import and export enterprises.
