Thailand exported over 500,000 tons of durian to China and invested on establishment of novel corona-virus testing system

Thailand's durian exports to China have exceeded 500,000 tons, according to the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thai media reported.  At the same time, the Thai government plans to invest 59 million baht in the construction of the novel corona-virus Testing center to enhance the safety confidence of Thai fruits.  
   
To promote fruit exports to China, Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has asked fruit exporters to strictly follow the guidelines of the GMP Plus measures.  From February 1 to June 17, 2022, Thailand exported 509,138.89 tons of fresh durian to China, with exports exceeding 54.4 billion baht, or about 10.3 billion yuan, according to statistics data.  Meanwhile, the department will set up a novel corona virus monitoring system for Durian in Chanthaburi in Thailand as a pilot area.
   
At present, the Agricultural Technology Office is further extending the GMP Plus measures to the southern region, where durian is expected to hit the market faster than usual this year. Durian export revenue is expected to increase by more than 50% from June to August at Surat Thani Agricultural Research and Development Office, District 7.  
   
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives organized a training course for fruit packing plant enterprises in the southern region to master product quality control techniques throughout the fruit packing plant and provide knowledge on COVID-19 prevention measures and proactive prevention approaches.  At the same time, the Ministry organized staff to make packaging factory inspection in Chumphon province, Surat Thani province and Nakhon Si Thammarat province, and made GMP Plus certification for 79 packaging factory .
