Australia revises inspection requirements for processed raw shrimp and other products

Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry 澳大利亚农业、渔业和林业部
On 22 August 2022, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry issued a notice to include highly processed raw prawns (HPPrawns) and medium-cooked breaded, battered or crushed prawns (BBCPrawns) for human consumption in the Compliance based Intervention Scheme(CBIS). Australia says compliant importers benefit from CBIS, allowing easier border clearance and lower regulatory costs. BBC prawns will not be inspected 100% for sealed good condition to verify the goods, only a part of the package may be inspected for sealed good condition; For HP prawns, less than 25% of the consignment will be inspected for verification. If noncompliance is detected, the intervention rate increases. Non-compliance may occur during document evaluation or during inspection and verification of goods. After a period of compliance, importers will be able to regain eligibility for reduced intervention rates.
