Japan released "Monitoring Guidance Results Based on Imported Food Monitoring Guidance Program" and "Import Food Monitoring Statistics" for fiscal 2021

On August 26, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan released the "Monitoring guidance results based on the imported Food Monitoring Guidance Program" and "import Food Monitoring Statistics" for fiscal 2021. The main contents are as follows. (Note: Figures in "[ ]" are figures for the same period last year)
 
· about 2.46 million pieces [2.35 million pieces] of imported food were submitted for application in 2021, weighing about 31.36 million tons [31.06 million tons]. 204,240 [200,876] were inspected. Among them, 809 cases [691 cases] of illegal food have been returned or destroyed.
 
· In terms of monitoring and inspection in 2021, the planned number was 99,995 [99,730], but the actual number was 101,365 [102,070]times, and the implementation rate was about 101% [102%]. Among them, illegal food was 157 [146 ]times, which have been recycled.
 
· For imported food with high risk of violation, the Japanese government will ask the government of the exporting country to find out the cause of violation and formulate measures to prevent recurrence, while promoting health measures in the exporting country through bilateral agreement.
