Thailand to revise edible oil quality standards

Ministry of Public Health Thailand
On August 25, 2022, the Ministry of Health of Thailand issued Notification 215 to revise the quality standards for edible oils and fats. Some of the revisions include:

(1) Deleted the requirements for the content order of each ingredient in the ingredient list of the mixed fish oil label;

(2) Revised the definition of edible oils, excluded oils and fats used as food flavorings;

(3) The content of erucic acid in vegetable oils and mixed vegetable oils (excluding mustard oil and rapeseed oil) shall not exceed 20mg/kg, the content of erucic acid shall not exceed 50mg/kg in mustard oil and shall not exceed 60mg/kg in rapeseed oil ;

(4) The iodine value of edible coconut oil was revised from 6-11g/100g to 5-11g/100g, and the content range of lauric acid (C12:0) was revised from 45.1-53.2% to 44.9-53.2%, etc.

The feedback period for this circular ends on October 7, 2022.
