Hungary established official control regulations for foods containing Trans Fatty Acids

On 11 November 2024, the Hungarian Official Gazette published Regulation 53/2024 on the official control of foods containing trans fatty acids, which entered into force on the day following the Gazette's publication. The main contents include:

  

(1) It applies to fats and oils intended directly for consumption by consumers or as a component of food and does not apply to naturally occurring TFAs in fats of animal origin;

  

(2) The National Office for Food Chain Safety (Nebih) shall provide data on the results of inspections of the content of trans fatty acids on a quarterly basis, including information on the companies inspected, the names of the food products, the manufacturers and distributors, and test the content of trans fatty acids per 100g of each type of food product and per 100g of fats contained therein, and set up a relevant database for monitoring the changes in the composition of food products.
