On December 11, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 188 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the import of wild aquatic products from Spain that meet the relevant requirements is permitted.

Wild aquatic products refer to wild aquatic animal products and their products, marine plant products such as algae and their products for human consumption, excluding species listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and List of National Key Protected Wild Animals in China (LSKPWA), live aquatic animals, and aquatic animal and plant breeding materials.

Production enterprises exporting wild aquatic products to China (including processing plants, fishing vessels, processing vessels, transportation vessels, independent cold storage, the same hereinafter) shall be approved by the Spanish official (hereinafter referred to as the Spanish side) and subject to its effective supervision. The food safety and hygienic conditions of the production enterprises shall comply with the requirements of the relevant food safety laws and regulations of China and Spain.

According to the relevant provisions of the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China and its implementing regulations and the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine and its implementing regulations, the production enterprise exporting wild aquatic products to China shall be recommended for registration by the Spanish side to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China. Without registration, they shall not be exported to China.
