On January 3, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Announcement No. 2024-602, amending some of the contents of the Enforcement Rules of the Law Concerning the Labeling and Advertisement of Food Products, etc. The main contents are as follows:

Except for matters directly related to consumers and food safety (e.g., expiration date, allergens, etc.) in the mandatory labeling of food products, the remaining information (name of raw materials, product declaration number, etc.) can be provided electronically through barcodes, etc., in order to minimize unnecessary wastage of resources due to the prevention of replacement of packaging materials of products.

The above consultation period is open until February 13, 2025.
