On October 31, 2022, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan issued Notices G/SPS/N/JPN/1132, 1133 and 1134, which amended the codes and standards for food and food additives in accordance with the Food Hygiene Law (revised pesticide residue standards). In the proposal to set maximum residue limits (MRL) for pesticides, the veterinary drugs Nitarsone, Roxarsone and Sodiumnifurstyrenate are proposed to be classified as "not detectable" pesticide ingredients in food. The notice is open for feedback until December 30, 2022, and the proposed standards will take effect after a grace period.
