South Korea intends to revise the Notification on Designated quarantine methods and standards for import and export of aquatic products

On November 11, 2022, the National Fisheries Products Quality Control Agency of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2022-83 to amend the Notice on Designated Quarantine Methods and Standards for import and Export Aquatic Products. The feedback period will end on December 1, 2022. The major revisions are as follows:


(1) Formulate detailed procedures for sending quarantine inspection to exporting countries;


(2) Clarify the product form of the specified quarantine object. Clarify the types of frozen and refrigerated shrimp products in aquatic products and the specified quarantine items;


(3) Requirements on the type and object of clinical inspection for the specified quarantine materials applying for import quarantine in facilities with low risk of pathogen leakage;


(4) Detailed procedures for handling quarantine results. Clarify detailed procedures for handling incomplete in the original quarantine certificate so that supplementary measures can be taken;


(5) Inspect the same type of unpackaged imported aquatic products together to ensure the consistency of inspection;


(6) Specific requirements for handling quarantine nonconforming products. In order to prevent the spread of epidemics, quarantine personnel must be present to dispose of the articles that fail the inspection and report the results of the treatment.


(7) To simplify the application documents and procedures for quarantine of export aquatic products, the processing procedures for unqualified products, and modify the contents of quarantine certificates, etc.
