Australia issued import conditions for frozen mollusk products

On 28 February 2024, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) issued a circular setting out the import conditions for frozen mollusk products. The main contents are as follows:

 

(1) import of frozen mollusk products does not require an import license from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry;

 

(2) only non-living (dead) mollusks are allowed to enter;

 

(3) Seafood products must meet the following import conditions: the imported mollusks are for human consumption only; If the goods are deemed unfit for human consumption (for any reason), they will not be diverted to bait, aquaculture feed or animal feed;

 

(4) A declaration that the goods have been frozen at or below -18°C for at least 7 consecutive days prior to shipment, and the declaration of freezing must be issued by the unit in which the goods are stored. If the declaration relates to the container in which the goods are located, the freeze declaration need not include a description of the goods or their quantity/volume;

 

(5) Each shipment must be in clean, new packaging and must not contain live insects, seeds, soil, soil, clay, animal material (such as manure), plant material (such as straw, twigs, leaves, roots, bark) and other debris prior to arrival on Australian territory.
