Saudi Arabia set customs clearance requirements for organic food imports

On April 30, 2024, the Saudi Arabian Food and Drug Authority issued a circular establishing customs clearance requirements for imported organic foods.

 

The main contents include: Applicable product scope and definition (organic plant-derived foods, animal-derived foods and processed foods), import certificate requirements and verification guidelines (imported foods claiming to be organic must be accompanied by an organic certificate issued by the regulatory authority of the exporting country or its authorized organization), requirements for the declaration, inspection and testing of imported organic foods, precautions for the Posting of organic markings, disposal of non-conforming foods Procedures (imported food that claims to be organic but cannot provide an official organic certificate is allowed to be sold as ordinary food, provided it meets the corresponding Saudi food standards), etc.

 

This requirement shall take effect from the date of publication.
