According to the monthly notice of unqualified foods and cosmetics by GAC,144 batches of imported foods and 15 batch of imported cosmetics were found unqualified and refused for entry in December 2020.
Unqualified foods came from more than 30 countries or regions, of which Taiwan, Vietnam, and Japan rank the top three.
The foods refused for entry did not comply with China’s laws and regulations. The main reasons of rejection were unqualified labels, food additives, nutritional fortifiers, expiry date, containing unquarantined ingredients, detection of animal diseases, detection of undeclared genetically modified ingredients, microbial contamination, failure to provide certificates or qualified certification materials as required, failure to obtain inspection and quarantine access, etc. Among them, there are 23 batches of products failure to provide certificates or qualified certification materials as required.
Statistics also show that Tianjin Port detected the largest number of unqualified foods, with 28 batches, followed by Xiamen and Shanghai.
In addition, 15 batches of cosmetics that were not allowed to enter the country were all produced in Germany, Japan, Thailand. The reason for the non-entry are unqualified labels, failure to provide certificates or certification materials as required, and Methyl chloroisothiazolinone component exceeds the standard.
The above-mentioned unqualified foods and cosmetics had been returned or destroyed at ports, according to GACC.
