EU issued scientific recommendations for the formulation of unified compulsory prepackage nutrition labelling related to nutrient content analysis

On 19 April 2022, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) issued scientific recommendations for the formulation of unified compulsory nutrition package labelling concerning nutrient content analysis.

Main Content: At the request of the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) was asked to provide scientific advice related to nutrient content analysis in order to make unified compulsory prepackage labelling on nutrition and make profile aimed at setting nutrient content limits of nutrition and health claims for foods.

The panel concluded that dietary intakes of saturated fatty acids (SFA), sodium and added/free sugars are higher than current dietary recommendations for most European population, while dietary fibre and potassium intakes are lower than current dietary recommendations. Above fact might be included in the nutritional analysis model for  association with adverse health effects.
