On 18 April 2022, the Romanian Veterinary and Food Safety Agency (ANSVSA) released the results of its annual food safety inspection. Between 28 March 2021 and 14 April 2022, ANSVSA's official inspectors officially controlled the veterinary hygiene and food safety situation at the national level in the following areas: 6,286 food enterprises (butchers, aquatic stores, supermarkets, catering enterprises, food warehouses, etc.), 463 kinds of animals and food transportation vehicles, 84 registered slaughterhouses (62,248 sheep slaughtered during the period), temporary slaughterhouses in 21 markets.
The ministry imposed 423 penalties, including eight suspensions and two bans, and seized 1,676 kilograms of substandard products (495 kilograms of meat, 281 kilograms of fresh meat, 652 kilograms of aquatic products and 248 kilograms of other food). Among the found nonconforming foods were: activities in unregistered Spaces or businesses, poor traceability of food, improper labeling, failure to properly implement self-control plans, lack of temperature monitoring in warehouses, use of unauthorized means of transportation for food, and deficiencies in HACCP planning and implementation.
