Ru12 may, a Russis media, said that the State Duma of the Russian Federation is currently working on a bill to ban the use of palm oil in certain food categories.
According to the website, the Duma is working on a draft after receiving a large number of requests to set limits on the use of palm oil in food.
In 2019, deputies of the State Duma proposed the abolition of tax benefits for palm oil . In the same year, amendments to the Tax law of the Russian Federation took effect, raising the VAT on palm oil to 20%. After that, the Russian government issued a decree to cancel the VAT exemption requirement on palm oil, but the decree does not apply to the separation of palm oil, duma officials said.
In an effort to reduce the use of palm oil in food, the Russian government has officially announced that palm oil and extracted palm oil will be subject to a standard 20% value-added tax when imported into the country and sold in Russia.
